Classification Moringa oleifera
Constituents Vitamins B1, B2, B3, A, C, E. Alpha and gamma-tocopherol. All 8 amino acids (arginine,
histidine, phenylalanine, threonine, leucine, tryptophan, lysine, valine). Minerals (calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, phosphor, copper). Phytochemicals (flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, tannins, sterols). Fat proteins, fibre. Alkaloids, glucosinolates, isothiocyonates.
Properties Antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, immune system booster, detoxify, laxative, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antidiabetic, hepato-protective.
Internal Uses Beneficial for the treatment of:
High cholesterol levels, high blood sugar levels, malnutrition, anaemia, arthritis and other joint pain (rheumatism), asthma, cancer, constipation, diabetes, diarrhoea, epilepsy, stomach pain, stomach and intestinal ulcers, intestinal spasms, headaches, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney stones, fluid retention, thyroid disorders, prevention of cataracts. For bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic infections. Prevents Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Stimulates immune system and metabolism.
If taken on an empty stomach it helps with digestion and acts as a natural laxative.
General tonic, protects the liver and kidneys. Will help during weight loss.
External Uses Moringa is sometimes applied directly to the skin as a germ-killer or drying agent (astringent). It is also used topically for treating pockets of infection (abscesses), athlete’s foot, dandruff, gum disease (gingivitis), snakebites, warts, and wounds. Filter into a hot bath.
Preparation Infusion: Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of herb. Cover and infuse for 5-10 min. Strain and drink 3 times daily.
Hot compress: Put 1-2 teaspoons of flowers into a
facecloth, wrap and dip into ½ a cup of boiling water for 5 minutes. Allow to cool enough not to burn the skin, squeeze excess water from the facecloth and apply to affected area.

Precaution Like all dark green foods, such as spinach, Moringa thickens the blood. If you are on blood-thinning medication or are pregnant or breastfeeding consult a health practitioner before use.
